Have you made a list of how things will be different in the new year? Have you already begun doing things differently?

You cannot, despite how badly you wish it were possible, come up with ideas literally from nothing, or “out of thin air.” Every idea you have is a result of something you’ve seen or experienced. That’s how creativity works.

I’ve been thinking a lot about ‘Aha!’ moments this week. The Aha! effect refers to the common human experience of suddenly understanding a previously incomprehensible problem or concept.
You’ve been there. You have a few pieces of the puzzle, but you can't see how to make them all fit together. And then suddenly you get one or two more pieces of information and Eureka! -- everything becomes crystal clear.

Does your organization have a culture that encourages innovation or is your suggestion box covered in dust?
One of my all time favorite quotes comes from Sam Walton who said, “The key to success is to get out into the store and listen to what the associates have to say. It’s terribly important for everyone to get involved. Our best ideas come from the clerks and stock boys.”

A trainer friend called me after using my change activity – Life Line – in one of his seminars. His opening words to me were, “Do you know they cry during this activity?” I had forgotten to warn him.

For the first time in my life I reached an athletic goal!
On Thanksgiving Day I ran the 5 mile Austin Turkey Trot. I wasn't the sleekest or the fastest runner, but I was THERE. Never in a million years would I have guessed that I could do it.

Things are changing faster and faster every day, and there’s no slowing in sight. The bottom line for any company is you can either lead the change or be collateral damage as the change rolls over you.
A company capable of responding effectively to rapidly changing market conditions will operate in an environment where mistakes and even failures happen. You can’t expect yourself or other people to be great without making mistakes. In fact, failure should be expected. It's been said, If you never fail, you are not trying hard enough.

Brands are seen to be much more than names and logos; they are a way of doing business. The first step in branding is to create a compelling, consistent, and sustainable point of differentiation. How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? Without this differentiation, products, services, and entire organizations enter into the “gray zone."
